The government of Buenos Aires province rejected the trade agreement reached between Argentina and the United States and warned that it will cause more unemployment in the country's most populous province. "This agreement directly hits the province of Buenos Aires and adds to the adjustment and job destruction policy we have been seeing," it stated. It described the deal as "an agreement that in practical terms doesn't mean much but shows a very clear agenda of where Milei's government wants to advance in its international policy and that it is taking place in the context of a convulsed world." The minister warned that the industrial sector could be one of the most affected, as in many cases it competes with the United States. He noted that the province of Buenos Aires "contributes 50% of Argentina's industrial goods, so this agreement directly hits the Province and adds to all this adjustment and job destruction policy, which is very concerning." Continuing to criticize the government, the minister pointed out that hours before the agreement was announced, Minister of Economy Luis Caputo gave a speech at the UIA and did not mention the word 'industry' once. "It is very worrying, really," warned the Minister of Production of the Province of Buenos Aires, Augusto Costa, in radio statements. Costa considered that the agreement "is part of this ruinous strategy of subordination and delivery of sovereignty that Milei has been deploying." For the official, the "unconditional alignment with the United States" can harm different sectors, such as industry. "What is even more worrying is that it is announced (the agreement) the same day that the minister appears before the UIA and does not mention the word industry or industrial policy even once," he said about Caputo, and added: "We are facing a government that is deindustrializing Argentina." After several months of negotiations, the United States announced this Thursday the long-awaited bilateral trade agreement, a pact that, according to them, seeks "to promote long-term growth that expands opportunities for both nations".
